The long awaited 100th day of school finally arrived this week. In preparation this year we had the children count out one hundred of various materials found around the school and classroom. We were able to scaffold the children’s learning as they learned that the easy way to count to 100 was by grouping the material into groups of 10. יום המאה של שנת הלימודים, שכל כך חיכינו לו,הגיע לבסוף השבוע וכחלק מהפעילויות לכבודו, ביקשנו מהילדים למנות מאה דברים שונים הנמצאים בכיתה ובסביבת בית הספר.עקבנו אחרי הילדים ושמחנו לראות שהם למדו שהדרך הקלה למנות עד 100 היא לחלק את הדברים לקבוצות של 10

Often to young children, 100 means “the most.” To challenge this notion, we asked the class to estimate which of three bags contained 100 kernels of popcorn. They were all quite surprised to learn that the bag with the fewest number of kernels was the correct answer. למספר 100,עבור ילדים קטנים, יש בדרך כלל משמעות של "הכי הרבה". בכדי לאתגר אותם,בקשנו מהילדים לשער באיזו שקית יש מאה גרגרי פופקורן. רובם התפלאו לראות שהשקית שהכילה הכי מעט גרגרים הייתה התשובה הנכונה

On day 100, we filled the day with fun learning. The children were able to stamp, fingerprint, or sticker 100 times into a grid that had 100 squares. A 100 day crown was also a big hit. The children decorated their 100 day glasses, brought as a gift from the much loved Zero the Hero. יום המאה היה מלא בפעילויות מהנות הילדים יכלו להדביק 100 מדבקות או ליצור 100טביעות אצבעות בתוך רשת שהכילה 100 ריבועים כמו כן קישטו הילדים משקפים עם המספר 100שהובאו כמתנה באהבה מ"מספר אפס הגיבור":

The children were saddened to remember that it was Zero’s last visit to our classroom. Sometimes milestones are bittersweet. They had the opportunity to build with 100 red Solo cups – what fun and what moans when the tall creations crashed to the floor! הילדים השתמשו ב100 כוסות חד פעמיות בכדי לבנות דברים שונים

And what a snack – we ate 100’s! One was made from cucumbers and carrots, another from a sliced mini bagel and a pretzel. They were delicious! גם ארוחת העשר הייתה קשורה למספר 100 והכנו אותו ממלפפון וגזר או מסוגי בייגלה שונים והם היו ממש טעימים

For some children, the best part was getting to meet someone who is turning 100 – both in days and in years. We met Shauna’s new baby, Tanner, who is 100 days old this week. Such a cutie! Then we met Grandpa Leo, who will be 100 the end of March. He is a joyful senior here at the J, very happy and positive and he has that lovely South African accent. The children thought up a few questions to ask him like, what did he play with when he was little, where did he live, and even if he had lost some teeth. We were amazed to learn his favorite memory was being able to recite parts of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, after one child had said he thought he might not remember much. We plan to revisit Grandpa Leo on his birthday. עבור חלק מהילדים החלק הטוב ביותר של יום המאה היה להיפגש עם משהו שמלאו מלאו לו 100 ימים או שנים. פגשנו את טאנר, התינוק בן 100 הימים ואת סבא ליאו שבסוף מרץ ימלאו לו 100 שנים. ליאו הוא אדם שמח בעל מבטא דרום אפריקאי חזק. הילדים שאלו אותו במה שיחק בילדותו, איפוא גדל ואפילו אם איבד כמה שיניים. לאחר שאחד הילדים חשב שישי לו בעיות זיכרון,היה מדהים ללמוד שהוא אוהב וזוכר לדקלם את יוליוס קיסר מאת שייקספיר אנחנו מתכננים לבקר אותו ביום ההולדת שלו
