Blessings of Holiness April 28

Consider … What rewards do you like to receive for a “job well done”? Consider that God owes us nothing … we are His servants (not employees) – Yet He chooses to bless His people – This week we look at the blessings God gives for living in holiness

Listen for the conditions for being blessed. Leviticus 26:3-10 (NIV) " 'If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, [4] I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit. [5] Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.

Listen for the conditions for being blessed. [6] " 'I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove savage beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. [7] You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. [8] Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies

Listen for the conditions for being blessed. will fall by the sword before you. [9] " 'I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. [10] You will still be eating last year's harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new.

Fruitfulness What conditions do you see here for receiving God’s blessings? What blessings are mentioned in these categories? ProvisionsPersonal SafetyNational Security

Fruitfulness What kinds of situations keep you from sleeping because you are worried? God says, “you will lie down and no one will make you afraid.” How does this affect those issues that keep you awake and fearful? What are some ways God has provided for your material or household needs? What were some times when God protected you?

Fruitfulness  Maybe there was a time when you were in the accident or did get very ill or did not have a job for a long period. Agree or disagree? How should believers respond when they live obediently but frightening situations occur? God’s promises of protection or provision are not always true. AgreeDisagree

Presence When your children were scared, why was your presence comforting to them? Listen for why the Israelites would be comforted.

Listen for why the Israelites would be comforted Leviticus 26:11-13 (NIV) I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. [12] I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. [13] I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.

Presence What was the nature of God’s comforting? What other blessings did God recount? How does God demonstrate His presence in our lives today? What are the benefits or blessings of God’s presence in our lives?

Presence What about the knowledge of God’s presence when you are tempted to disobey Him? How does His presence impact those situations? How do you feel about God’s presence in your life now, as opposed to when you were younger?

Restoration What types of things do you forget? What do you do to help yourself remember? Listen for what God would remember.

Leviticus 26:40-42 (NIV) " 'But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers-- their treachery against me and their hostility toward me, [41] which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies--then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, [42] I will remember my covenant

Listen for what God would remember. with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. … [45] But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord.' "

Restoration God says He will remember His covenants … what would the Israelites need to do? Why is repentance need for restoration to happen?

Restoration How would you respond? If God will always forgive, why should we take sin so seriously? I’ve messed up too many times. God could never forgive me after all these years.

Application The Lord expects His people to live according to His Word – He will bless His people for their faithfulness to Him – All our blessings result from God’s acts of grace for our good and for His glory – Thank Him for His faithful provisions for you each day

Application God dwells among His people and accepts them in relationship with Him! – How great is that?!! – Believers are able to experience ongoing encounters with the Lord – He has set us free from the penalty and the power of sin in our lives – we are free to live for Him.

Application Forgiveness of sin and God’s favor can be found by those willing to confess their failures to the Lord – God remembers His covenant promises – He will forgive – God’s words are faithful and true … you can depend on Him – Tell Him you are trusting Him this week
