Yellow Submarine

In the town where I was born, Lived a man who sailed to sea, And he told us of his life, In the land of submarines, So we sailed on to the sun, Till we found the sea green, And we lived beneath the waves, In our yellow submarine, We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. And our friends are all aboard, Many more of them live next door, And the band begins to play. (Trumpets play) We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine.. (Full speed ahead, Mr. Barkley, full speed ahead! Full speed over here, sir! All together! All together! Aye, aye, sir, fire! Captain! Captain!) As we live a life of ease(life of ease) Every one of us(every one of us) has all we need,(has all we need) Sky of blue,(sky of blue) and sea green,(sea of green) In our yellow(In our yellow) submarine.(submarine) ( Haha! ) We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. Begin by reading children a book on ‘Super Submarines’. Open discussion with them on how submarines work. Set up float/sink experiment area with objects that the children can test. Make a model submarine and test the buoyancy.

 Find an empty plastic bottle with a lid.  Does this empty bottle float?  Fill the empty bottle with water.  Does the full bottle sink?  Pour out some of the water and replace the lid.  Look at how the bottle floats.  Put more water into the bottle until the bottle floats just below the surface.  Your bottle is now floating just like a submarine.

EMOTIONAL, PERSONAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT  Make and express choices, plans and decisions.  Persevere in tasks that at first presents some difficulties.  Become aware of and respect the needs and feelings of others and learn to follow the rules. COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE  Listen and respond to the sounds and rhythms of words in stories, songs, music and rhymes.  Use language for a variety of purposes, for example, to describe, explain, predict, ask questions and develop ideas.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD  Develop their powers of observation using their senses.  Ask questions, experiment, design and make, and solve problems.  Understand some properties of materials, e.g, soft/hard. PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT AND MOVEMENT  Develop increasing control of the fine movements of the fingers and hands.  Be safe in movement and in using tools and equipment.

 Art and Design: Design telescopes, paint a submarine.  Drama: Role play area - captains, crew etc – links with art and design.  Environment: Visit to ‘Sea Life’ and what we can do to protect our oceans for a sustainable future.

 Language: Stories involving deep sea creatures, oceans, boats, ships, divers…  Ian and Mac Stories – Under the Sea by Margo Fallis  ianmacbt10.htm ianmacbt10.htm
