Selecting Your Pineapples!  Available all year long  Should be fragrant, heavy and symmetrical in size  Leaves should be crowned and be fresh and green  Should be fresh and clean with no shriveling, discoloration or non-uniform ripening  Eat immediately after purchase since they are picked ripe

Use of Pineapples Wastes  The outer peel and the central core are discarded when canning a pineapple  This waste accounts for 50% of the total pineapple weight called pineapple bran  10 tons of fresh bran is discarded per hectare.  The bran, either fresh or dried is a good feed for ruminants.  Usually mixed with 9% molasses, grass, or ground into the feed of the ruminants.

Exporting and Packing  Reduction of post-harvest disease, fruit should be treated by dipping or spraying, with Dowicide A at a concentration of 7 grams per liter of water. Packing should be carried out immediately.  The fruits are normally packed by their net weight.
