This is a book report on the book called “Amber Brown is Feeling Blue” by Paula Danziger

Main Characters Amber Brown is a girl that tells the story about her life and issues she has. Brenda is the babysitter Amber loves. Amber’s Mom is Amber’s mom. Max is Amber’s mom’s boyfriend. Amber’s Dad is Amber’s dad. Kelly Green is the new girl in school. Brandi is Amber’s best friend.

Setting The setting of this book is in many places, including Amber’s house, Kelly Green’s house, at Amber’s school, New York City, Walla Walla, Washington, and Paris, France.

Problems in the Story The second problem is that Amber has a new girl in her class called Kelly Green. At first, Amber doesn’t like Kelly Green because her name is a color, too. Amber has to decide where to spend Thanksgiving. She can either go to Walla Walla, Washington with Mom and Max, or she can go to New York City with her dad.

The Plot: The Beginning The beginning of the story describes Amber’s life. Amber goes to school with her best friend, Brandi. She spends time with her “Amber-sitter”, Brenda. Brenda does homework with her and makes cool food. Amber’s mom and dad are divorced and she lives with her mom. Amber’s dad is moving back from France, and she has a book called “Countdown to Dad” so she knows how many days until he comes back. Amber’s life is pretty complicated.

The Plot: The Middle, Part 1 Amber’s parents are divorced and she has a big decision to make. Should she go to Walla Walla, Washington with her mom and Max for Thanksgiving, or should she go to New York City with her dad? Amber doesn’t know what to do, and it is making her feel blue. She spends a lot of time thinking about what she is going to do. Decisions are hard to make.

The Plot: The Middle, Part 2 Kelly Green is the new girl in school. At first, Amber Brown doesn’t like Kelly Green because she has a colorful name, just like Amber. The teacher asks Amber to show Kelly around the school. While they are looking around the school, Kelly throws up. Amber tells everyone about it. Then everyone teases Kelly, calling her Kelly Greenbarf. Amber isn’t sure if they are going to be friends.

The Plot: The End In the end, Amber goes to New York City with her dad for Thanksgiving and they eat hot dogs and watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Also, Amber and Brandi go to Kelly Green’s house where they paint their toes with nail polish. They also paint the dog’s toes. That is how the book ends.

Solutions to the problems Amber makes decisions. She decides to go to New York City with her dad because he has no other family to spend the day with. The next holiday, which is Christmas, she is going to spend with Mom and Max. Amber also decides to be friends with Kelly Green. That is how Amber Brown resolves her issues.

Should other 4th grade students read this book? I think other fourth grade girls should read this book because it shows how Amber Brown resolves her issues, and other fourth graders could learn from this. It also talks about how to be a good friend. It is a funny book, so lots of girls would like this book.
