STANDARDIZATION OF PROTECH  STANDARDIZATION IN THE FIELD OF PROTECH IS CARRIED OUT BY:  TEXTILES PROTECTIVE CLOTHING SECTIONAL COMMITTEE, TXD 32 TO FORMULATE INDIAN STANDARDS FOR TESTING AND SPECIFICATION FOR TEXTILE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR PROTECTION FROM FIRE AND OTHER HEALTH/LIFE HAZARDS TO FORMULATE INDIAN STANDARDS FOR TESTING AND SPECIFICATION FOR TEXTILE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR PROTECTION FROM FIRE AND OTHER HEALTH/LIFE HAZARDS

RECOMMENDATIONS  IN VIEW OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND PROPERTY LOSS AS WELL AS HIGH ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION INVOLVED IN FIRES, IT IS VERY URGENT THAT RELEVANT INDIAN STANDARDS ON PROTECH ARE MADE MANDATORY FOR TEXTILES USED IN PUBLIC PLACES/BUILDINGS SUCH AS HOSPITALS, AIRPORTS, THEATERS, SHOPPING COMPLEXES, RAILWAYS, CIVIL AVIATION, AUTOMOBILES, DEFENCE, ETC, UPHOLSTERY ITEMS IN AUTOMOBILES, LADIES’ WEAR AND CHILDREN WEAR.

RECOMMENDATIONS (Contd.)  STANDARDS ON FR TEXTILES E.G. IS15741: 2007, IS15742:2007, IS15748:2007 AND IS15768:2007 AND ON HIGH VISIBILITY CLOTHING (IS15809:2008) COULD BE MADE MANDATORY UNDER THE BIS ACT.  SUBSEQUENTLY, STANDARD FOR RESISTANCE TO IGNITION OF MATTRESSES, DIVANS AND BED BASES TO BE MADE MANDATORY AFTER PUBLICATION.

RECOMMENDATIONS (Contd.)  IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE IMPORT OF SUB-STANDARD AND HAZARDOUS PROTECTIVE TEXTILES, THE RELEVANT INDIAN STANDARDS COULD BE MADE MANDATORY FOR IMPORTS ALSO.
