Two Minute Drill Prepare for lecture notes. Homework Complete the lab Learner Objective Learner will be able to identify the effervescence gas produced in a chemical reaction when a flame is added.

Lecture: Chemical Gases A Look into Effervesences

Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ): A colorless odorless gas that does not aid in combustion. A burning flame will go out.

Oxygen gas (O 2 ): A colorless, odorless gas that will make a flame burn brighter and faster. Has the capability of making a burning ember burst back into a flame. A gas which is required for combustion to occur.

Acetylene (C 2 H 2 ): A colorless gas that will burn when oxygen gas is present.

Hydrogen (H 2 ): A colorless gas that will explode in the presence of fire or a spark if oxygen gas is present too.
