Wells Branch has a monthly Bulk Pick-Up- 2 nd Saturday every month Large Item Trash & Hazardous Waste Large Item Disposal There is an opportunity for Wells Branch residents to discard their unwanted bulky items on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Dumpsters will be available at the Maintenance Office at Thermal Drive. The hours for drop off are 8am – 5pm (We will close when the dumpsters are filled or 5pm at the latest, so come out early.). Items that may not be discarded Paint TiresBatteries Freon Containing Devices GasComputers/TV's Water Heaters Chemicals/Pesticides **If you are unsure, ask the Wells Branch Employee on Duty.** From Website Info:

2 years ago, we started a House Hold Hazardous Waste event- *First event had 63 participants Household Hazardous Waste Collection Location: WB Maintenance Shop Thermal Dr. What we can take: Batteries Oil Paint Antifreeze Dates and Times: April 13, 2013 (8-5pm) Here’s your chance to clean out that garage or shed! Bring your old batteries, oil, paint, and antifreeze to the WB maintenance shop at Thermal Dr. Oil, paint and anti-freeze need to be in closed containers. If bringing car or boat batteries, a cardboard box would be appreciated (but not necessary). Please do not bring pesticides, fertilizer, tires, etc. to this pick up site as we are limited as to what we can collect and transport. From Website Info:

Since then we have also added Easter Seals and Habitat for Humanity Donations, Document Shredding and a Drug Take Back event. This year we had 237 residents participate in at least some element of the event. 43 residents brought back drugs. The shredding event was also very popular!

We ran this ad in our neighborhood newsletter

Drug Take Back We contacted our local Deputy and had him check into requirements for a Drug Take Back event. After checking with the DEA he learned all he needed to do was have an officer at the collection event. Afterwards he took everything collected in an evidence bag and burned it in an incinerator at their office.

UT Pharmacy School Students Contacted Dr. Diane Gingsburg at UT School of Pharmacy to see if students could help. Contact is: Students worked in two 2 hour shifts for volunteer hours needed for school. They were very helpful on the drug intake, especially separating the pills in blister paks!

And...

Liquids, inhalers, and injections

And other items we saved from being flushed!

Handout to residents for future Drug Disposal

Batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze

Items for metal recycling

Items for Easter Seals / Habitat for Humanity

Some Bulky Items

Items were collected here and shredded at their business

Another event scheduled for October Lessons learned: Having a shredding event at the same time as the Take Back Program was very important to the overall success of the event. Residents liked being able to discard drugs and containers. Use pictures to advertise for next event! For Drug Take Back-items to provide: plastic bags, plastic gloves, scale for weighing returned items.

If you would like any help planning an event in your MUD, please feel free to contact me for any questions you may have. Donna Howe, RPh. President, Wells Branch MUD Board
