Los adjetivos: Gender and Number Español 1

The rules Adjectives must agree in GENDER and NUMBER with the noun they describe. Adjectives usually come after the noun.

Gender Masculine adjectives usually end in –o. El vestido blanco Feminine adjectives usually end in –a. La camisa roja Adjectives that end in –e can be used for both genders. El chico paciente La chica paciente

Adjectives that end in a consonant can be used for both genders. El chico fenomenal La chica fenomenal Some adjectives need an –a added to the end to make it feminine. El hombre trabajador La mujer trabajadora

When an adjective describes a group with both genders, the masculine form of the adjective is used. El chico y la chica son guapos.

Number Adjectives must match the number of the nouns they describe. To make an adjective plural: Add –s if it ends in a vowel El libro buenolos libros buenos Add –es if it ends in a consonant El libro azullos libros azules
