US-52 INTERSECTION Devin Huesman – dhuesman@purdue US-52 INTERSECTION Devin Huesman – dhuesman@purdue.edu Tyler Comstock – tmcomsto@purdue.edu Jacob Kwilasz – jkwilasz@purdue.edu Jenni Morsches – jmorsche@purdue.edu

Project Objectives -To analyze the Northbound left turn lane at US-52 and Cumberland Road -Evaluate the wait times at the intersection peak hours -Evaluate the capacity of the left-turn lane and its effectiveness -Analyze other alternatives to using the left-turn lane

Map of Intersection

Data Collection Plan Monday October 12th, 2009 Tasks 5:15 – 6:15 Count Length of Left Turn Measure Queue Times Count Number of Vehicles Making a U-Turn on Cumberland

Entering Volume

Wait Times

Queue Length

Expectations We expect to get a quantitative analysis of this intersection during its peak hour We expect ~5% of the vehicles to make a U-Turn on Cumberland We expect a minimum wait time of 2 light cycles to get through the intersection

Actual Results We saw a slightly smaller number of U-turns than expected. The majority of vehicles sat through a maximum of 1 cycle.
