Audio Visual Vocab 1 Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Analog, Digital

Pan Pan: Pivot the camera to the right (pan right) or to the left (pan left).

Tilt 1 Tilt: Pivot the camera up (tilt up) or pivot down (tilt down).

Zoom Zoom: Makes things look closer that the actually are.

Analog Analog: Representing data in continuously variable physical quantities in contrast.

Digital Digital: Representation of data in discrete units (the binary digits 1 and 0).

Sound Signals All sound when recorded is in the form of a signal Picture a signal as a wave in the ocean The highs and lows of a sound form a “wave” type signature A constant sound without variance would be a flat line Sounds can be recorded with either digital or analog equipment

Sound recording equipment Analog equipment: CassetteTape Recorder, VHS, Reel to Reel Digital Equipment: DVD, CDROM, media on your computer

Analog and Digital Signals You have heard this term many times, but what does it really mean? Which one is better? What are the strengths and weakness of both? The AV industry is switching from Analog to Digital

Analog Vs Digital Signals The Analog signal is infinite in variation The Digital signal is on or off AnalogDigital

Analog VS Digital Think of the digital signal as a light switch, either on or off Analog is like a dimmer switch, the intensity is infinitely variable and not precise like on and off is. The term analog originated because the analog wave is analogous to fluctuations of the voice

Which is better? There isn’t one that is better then the other (overall) they are both great Analog is a better representation of true life due to its ability to accommodate all graduations Digital must break the information down into pieces, the smaller the pieces the more accurate the copy is.
