Practitioner Forum Innovation and Improvement for Safeguarding in Salford

Good morning and welcome David Barnes Business Manager – SSCB

What is today about? Challenge Support Innovation Participation Making a difference for children On every dimension the work of practitioners that is vital

What is today about? “Helping drive the business of the SSCB”

Salford Safeguarding Strategy Overall aim “To provide outstanding safeguarding services in Salford for children, young people and their families, through three key goals” Focus on Early Intervention & Prevention Provide reliable safeguarding services across the partnership Improve the experiences of vulnerable children

How will this work There are six themes that will make this strategy work Culture Workforce Leadership Quality of Practice Performance management Making it Happen

SSS This is a three year strategy taking us to 2015 It will work because it involves all our partners It is held to account through Salford Safeguarding Children Board

Key messages Have confidence in your own professional judgement Use good assessments to provide robust challenge in decision making Work with partners but always check that a task has been completed CP processes are important and have to be followed for good reason. Remember the child is at the centre, concentrate on the child not the adult.

Key messages Sharing information is critical Good chronologies are vital Look out for the danger of early closures when steps in the process are missed There is a lot of research about neglect, it is easy to access and very usable Near enough isn’t good enough

Key messages The expertise to safeguard children is here today Practice in Salford in all agencies is improving significantly Use the knowledge from today to improve further and share it with colleagues

Thank you for attending today, we hope to see you again
