Ohio High School Rule Differences 2014 Part 3 RULES 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 Starting and Restarting Play

RULE 8 The Start of Play

–Each team in own half of field –Defenders at least 10 yards from ball –Ball stationary on center spot –Referee signals with whistle to kick-off –Ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward Current Knowledge

Kick-Offs When: Start of game After each goal –By team scored upon Start of second half –By team that did not kick-off in first half –Teams switch ends Current Knowledge

Additional Points Kicker may not “double touch” the ball A goal may be scored directly from a kick-off Referee must signal to the official timer when to start the clock Current Knowledge

RULE 9 Ball In and Out of Play

Ball In and Out of Play Ball is out of play when: – It has wholly crossed the goal line or touch line …. On the ground or in the air –Play has been stopped by the referee Current Knowledge

Ball In and Out of Play Ball is in play at all other times including: –Rebound from goalpost, crossbar or corner flag post –Rebound off an official as long as the ball remains on the field of play Current Knowledge

IFK Restart Temporary Suspension of Play Due to: –Injury –Inadvertent Whistle –Ball becomes deflated –Interference by an outside agent Only when one team has “clear” possession of the ball. “Clear” Possession = No opponent is within playing distance of the ball Current Knowledge

Drop Ball Restart Temporary Suspension of Play Due to: –Injury –Inadvertent Whistle –Ball becomes deflated –Interference by an outside agent Only when neither team has “clear” possession of the ball. Current Knowledge

Drop Ball Restart When ball goes out-of-play due to a simultaneous touch by two opposing players When simultaneous fouls of the same degree are committed

Drop Ball Where ball was when play stopped …. AND …. 5 yards from the touch-line

Drop Ball MUST be dropped between two opposing players

Drop Ball GOAL IS ALLOWED IF EITHER TEAM KICKS BALL DIRECTLY INTO GOAL ON FIRST TOUCH Against Self or Opponent

RULE 10 Method of Scoring

Definition Of A Goal When the whole ball has: Completely crossed the goal line Between the goalposts Under the crossbar Current Knowledge

The Throw-In RULE 15

The Throw-In When the whole ball has crossed the touch line Throw-in awarded to opponents of the player who last touched the ball Current Knowledge

Placement Awarded from the point where it crossed the touch line If not, it shall be considered to be improperly thrown Current Knowledge

Position of Feet Legal Not Legal Current Knowledge

Delivery of Ball Use both hands Deliver ball from behind and over the head Unless a physical impairment would limit use to one hand Current Knowledge

Restart Ball is in play when: –It has left the hands of the thrower –Any part of the ball breaks the plane of the touchline If ball does not enter field properly: A throw-in is awarded to the opponent Current Knowledge

Infraction By Opponent If an opponent unfairly distracts or moves to impede the thrower… Cautioned Player is Cautioned for “unsporting behavior” and shown the yellow card. It is an infraction for a defender to stand closer than 2 yds. from point where throw-in is taken. Current Knowledge

The Goal Kick RULE 16

Goal Kick When the whole ball has: Crossed the goal line in the air or on the ground Was last touched by an attacker A goal was not scored Current Knowledge

WHERE A goal kick may be taken from anywhere within the Goal Area. Current Knowledge

Restart Whole ball must leave the penalty area on first touch If ball touched prior to leaving the penalty area by either team Retake goal kick Once the ball is placed, it cannot be moved to another part of the Goal Area. Current Knowledge

The Corner Kick RULE 17

Ball Placement Any portion of the ball shall be placed within the quarter-circle area Incorrect positioning Correct positioning Current Knowledge

Encroachment Opponents shall retire 10 yards away from 10 yards from the Ball the ball !
