T HE K LIPFISH C ODE By: Lily Russell Book By: Mary Casanova

M AIN C HARACTER The main character is Marit. She is the main character because the whole book is about her experience during the war.

S ETTING The setting is on an island right by Norway. They are in Norway because their house was bombed and Marit and her brother Lars’s parents thought it would be to dangerous. Marit is not happy about being here because she does not like her grandpa.

C HARACTER TRAITS Marit is defiant. She is defiant because she will not give up some of the stuff the German Soldiers say you have to give up or you will go to jail. For example, the German soldiers want blankets and they tell the people of the island to give them to them or they will be sent to prison camps. Marit does not do so even though her grandpa said so.

C HARACTER TRAITS Marit is also sad. She is sad because she has to leave her parents. Since she left her parents she only hears from them every three months in a letter. She is also sad because her house was ruined and she never knows if her parents are alright.

P ROBLEM the problem is that Marit’s house might be destroyed because of the war. Also, the people of Norway seem to have know idea how they are going to win since Norway has a weak army.

SOLUTION Read the book to find out!
