How did the Norman conquest change people’s lives? All: identify features of William’s England to describe change and continuity. Most: describe features of William’s England to describe change and continuity. Some: show an awareness of the extent of change and continuity and explain it. 14/05/2015

1) Read through your cards 2) Match up the information cards with a topic card. 3) Place your cards on the line of change and continuity. Change (things changed under the Normans) Continuity (things stayed the same under the Normans) Finished? Think about whose life changed.

Ok so how do I tell Walter what’s changed? PEE Point, Example, Explain

Use your cards to write a letter to Walt explaining how England has changed. Remember to use PEE paragraphs! Dear Walter, Since you have been away there has been some changes. The Norman Conquest brought changes to… This was shown by… This was a big/small change for the people of Britain as… Finished? Perhaps the biggest change was...

How did the Norman conquest change people’s lives? Point: Example: Explain: The Norman conquest brought some great changes to the way we talk to each other. This was shown by the changes made to our traditional names. Many people have started using French names like Henry and William instead of Ethelred. This was a big change for the people of England as their language was transformed. This change has also had a long lasting impact as many people in England still name their children Henry and William.

1) The Normans introduced new methods of transport to England. 2) The Normans did not change the way that people farmed the land. 3) English people began to use French names for their children. 4) The Normans introduced the peasants to a new diet and built them new houses. 5) King William gave a lot of money to the churches. TRUE or FALSE?

Post It Vote. 1) Think about whether life got better or worse under the Normans. 2) Write down ONE reason which explains why it got better OR worse. 3) Stick it on the whiteboard under the correct heading.
