Extreme Close ups are used to show important clues to the film. It makes the audience ask why they’ve chosen these items to focus on and later makes it clear in the film. The shots have a gritty look and give the audience a sense of what the tone of the film will be like. The extreme close ups make the audience feel really uncomfortable as it is unclear to be certain what is going on and what we can see is grim. The shots I have chosen show the character is smart, and also hints at blood and violence in the film i.e. The razor Cinematography

The Close ups allow us to see the finer details in the shots like the dirty finger nails, slicing off finger tips all allow the audience to realise this is the antagonist and he is meticulous highlighting that he will be difficult to catch Point of view shot (POV) help the audience feel unsettled as they’re put in the view point of the antagonist as they’re making this scrapbook.

Colours/Lighting There is low key lighting to give very dark and grim tone. The colours are all De saturated making everything look grey and dull. The tone of the film is very bleak and depressing and the opening titles do a good job of getting that across.

props Props used in the opening title sequence show the antagonist is smart, dangerous and careful. The picture of the skull shows that he is dangerous along with him blacking out the picture of the child which shows that he should be feared. The crossing out of words on the newspaper show he is planned a lot of his work and hints to the audience that he is smart and obsessive.

Sound and setting The non-diegetic sound throughout the opening is jarring but goes well with the footage. The sound makes the viewer feel uncomfortable and agitated because of the grating sound effects. At the end you hear the lyrics “You get me closer to God” hinting at a religious theme and perhaps motive for the antagonist The setting isn’t very clear in the title sequence although its typical of thrillers to keep that aspect unknown until the film starts. Not knowing the setting to the audience is creepy as they’re thrown straight into this location with no knowledge about it whatsoever. It is possible it can be a studio by looking at the props, Photography equipment, Scrapbooks etc. although this is not stated

Meaning A lot of imagery in the title sequence is used to show the theme of identity. The close up of the finger tip being sliced off shows that our antagonist doesn’t want to be known. Also blacking out words and pictures link to the theme of identity.
