TAU Update MPI Munich meeting 17/10/2006 Luminosity Detector R&D Tel Aviv University Halina Abramowicz, Ronen Ingbir, Sergey Kananov, Aharon Levy, Iftach Sadeh Collaboration High precision design

Backgrounds FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006

Background - Theta FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 Chen,Tauchi and Schroeder Paper

Backgroud - Pt FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 Chen,Tauchi and Schroeder Paper

Energy resolution & Digitization FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 No digitization ~ 25% energy resolution Energy [GeV]

Cells energy  Mips FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 Cell Energy [GeV] # MIPS 1 MIP leaves 150 KeV tested using simulation of Muons hitting LumiCal

Digitization Model FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 ADC High Gain Low Gain At low gain : 5 bins are required for one MIP Investigation: 6,7,8,9,10,11,12 BITS ADCs

Results FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 Bits Linear ScaleLog Scale

Silicon Lab FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 Phase one - Basic setup (I/V, C/V) Phase two - MIP measurements and first sensor design Phase three - Sensor with basic readout elec. (Laser system) Probe station arrived to TAU (Thanks to DESY Zeuthen) Purchase of lab equipment starts (Phase one) Contact local industry Cooperation with TAU Elec. engineering department

Summary FCAL -- TAU 17/10/2006 Backgrounds : the calculations should be compared to the MC simulations. Digitization : 8 BITS ADC maintain energy reconstruction performance. More studies are needed to include noise and to check full event reconstruction (energy & position). Silicon Lab : still in the setup phase  allot of work ahead !
