Author’s write for different purposes, or reasons.

An author may write to entertain.

An author may write to inform, or give information.

Sometimes an author writes to persuade, or make you believe or do something. Joe’s Deli has the best sandwiches!

The Mixed-Up Chameleon Author’s Purpose: A.To entertain B. To inform C. To persuade A. To entertain

What are some clues that tell us that the Mixed-Up Chameleon was meant to be entertaining? The story was made up. The chameleon said and did unusual things that made us laugh.

What is the author’s purpose? 1. Fruity-O’s Cereal is the best. You should eat Fruity-O’s! Entertain? Inform? or Persuade? Persuade

What is the author’s purpose? 2. Dolphins are mammals that live in the ocean. Unlike fish, dolphins must come to the surface to breathe. Dolphins eat fish and shrimp. Entertain? Inform? Or Persuade? Inform
