SHMOOP: HOW TO WRITE A PERSUASIVE ESSAY 

13 Colonies Essay Instructions: Use your notes and assignments for supportive details. You have today and tomorrow to complete this. Write a persuasive 5 paragraph essay to influence the reader why you think one region (New England, Middle, or Southern) would be the best region to live in as compared to the other two regions. You will need to include supportive details (for example: region's colonies, who founded each colony, when and why they were founded, and interesting colonial facts) about your region of choice to further persuade your reader. You will also need to compare your region of choice to the other two regions to prove why your choice is better than the other two. You will need to include supportive facts about the other regions and their colonies to explain why your region is the best to live in. *Remember, a proper essay includes an introduction (hook, thesis, three reasons), three supportive paragraphs (1 reason per paragraph), and a conclusion ( a paragraph is 5-7 sentences).

EXAMPLE 13 Colonies Essay Name, Date, Mod Paragraph 1 Hook(grab readers attention- but make sure it is a persuasive hook, not an informative hook- for example “Make the Middle Colonies your home today!”). Thesis (what you believe is true- for example “The Middle Colonies are the most livable colonies because of their climate, government, and religion”). Three Reasons (one sentence each to introduce each reason). Paragraph 2 Reason One. Details supporting this reason. Facts regarding this reason from BOTH of the other two regions to persuade why your region is the best. Paragraph 3 Reason Two. Details supporting this reason. Facts regarding this reason from BOTH of the other two regions to persuade why your region is the best. Paragraph 4 Reason Three. Details supporting this reason. Facts regarding this reason from BOTH of the other two regions to persuade why your region is the best. Paragraph 5 Restate thesis, three reasons, and tie all thoughts together. 5-7 Sentences Per Paragraph
