Okonkwo Noble Birth NOT AT ALL... He worked to become famous in the clan. He is the greatest wrestler and is respected at the beginning of the book.

Okonkwo Reversal of Fortune Accidentally shoots a boy in chapter 13. Is banished from Umofia for 7 years. Has to start ALL over.

Moment of Recognition NOT REALLY... He mostly blames his Chi and other people (Ogonwanne in chapter 25) for all the bad things that happen to him. BUT when he kills the court messenger in chapter 24, he does realize that his clan will never go to war.

Okonkwo FATAL FLAW TOO MUCH PRIDE! (You may choose any details you want from the book to justify this, there is a lot...)

Okonkwo Punishment is too much He is banished for 7 years for ACCIDENTALLY killing a boy. Remember, when I asked you if you felt he should be punished?!

Okonkwo: Free Choice or Fate? FREE CHOICE: Okonkwo chooses to kill Ikemefuna and the court messenger. He chooses to be the way he is (angry, mean, and so on). FATE: His gun accidentally goes off, banishing him for 7 years. The missionaries coming are out of his control too!

Okonkwo’s Downfall MOST tragic hero’s die in the end, and Okonkwo hanging himself fits that!
