II Peter 1:3-15 – as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4. by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5. But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6. to knowledge self-control, to self- control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7. to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10. Therefore, brethren, be even
more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11. for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 12. For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. 13. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, 14. knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. 15. Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.
VIRTUE – Force, strength, moral goodness, the courage to stand for the right... Ephesians 6:10-18 – Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15. and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16. above all, taking the shield of faith with
which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18. praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.
KNOWLEDGE – Intelligence, understanding, moral wisdom. Such is seen in right living... Ephesians 5:17 – Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Colossians 1:9-10 – For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10. that you may have a walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; I Timothy 2:3-4 – For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4. who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
II Peter 3:17-18 – You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18. but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
TEMPERANCE – Self control, restraint, to hold in check our desires and lusts... Acts 24:25 – Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you." Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23. gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
PATIENCE – Endurance, to be un-swerved by the greatest trials, to persist in the proper course regardless of hardships... I Timothy 6:11 – But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Hebrews 10:35-36 – Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: Hebrews 12:1-2 – Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2. looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy
that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Revelation 2:10 – Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
GODLINESS – Reverence, piety (devotion) toward God. A godly person is one who is humble and obedient to God... I Timothy 4:7-8 – But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. 8. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. I Timothy 6:11 - But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. II Peter 3:10-11 – But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of
persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
BROTHERLY KINDNESS – Affection. There should not be a tie any stronger. Christians are related by blood – the blood of Christ... John 13:34-35 – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." Romans 12:10 – Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; I Thessalonians 4:9 – But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; Hebrews 13:1-2 – Let brotherly love continue.
CHARITY – Love, good will, benevolence toward all men... I Corinthians 13:4-8 – Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5. does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6. does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7. bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. I Corinthians 13:13 – And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Colossians 3:14 – But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
I Timothy 4:12 – Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. I Peter 4:8 – And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."
