Towns of our region

Pelhrimov Pelhrimov is the district town of the Pelhrimov district. There is our school, the Business Academy.

History and monuments The name of Pelhrimov is derived from the Latin Peregrinus, which in fact means the same as “pilgrim“. According to a legend Pilgrim was a founder of Pelhrimov. The main monuments are for example St. Vitus Church, The Chateau of the Lords of Ricany, Masaryk Square, Lower (Jihlava) Gatehouse, Upper (Rynarec) Gatehouse, Municipal Theatre, etc.

St. Vitus Church It is the oldest church in Pelhrimov and the former parish church. It was apparently founded in the second or third quarter of the 13th century. It was originally built in the Gothic style which may still be noticed in the presbytery.

Chateau of the Lords of Ricany Originally, it might have been a Gothic construction of a tower-like character probably from the 15th century. Some remnants have been preserved in the so-called Gothic Hall on the ground floor of the chateau, showing that this object used to be part of the municipal fortification system. New parts were added to the oldest one in 1550 – 1551, when Pelhrimov was in possession of Adam Ricansky of Ricany. Between the years 1849 and 1907 it was the seat of the District Court, since 1908 it has housed exhibitions of the District Museum.

Jihlava Jihlava is the centre of the Vysočina Region on the ancient frontier between Moravia and Bohemia. Among the principal buildings there are the following churches: St. Jacob´s Church, St. Ignatius of Loyola´s Church, St. John the Baptist´s Church and St. Paul´s Church, the Municipal Hall and the catacombs, second largest in the Czech Republic. There is also a Jewish cemetery, containing some remarkable monuments including the tombstone of the parents of Gustav Mahler.

The Town of Telc - history – According to a local legend, the foundation of Telc is connected with the victory of the Moravian Duke Otto II. over the Czech Duke Bretislav in It is said that in the memory of the battle the victor established first a chapel, later a church and then a community, which is the Old Town today. – The beginning of the 19th century represents the rise of industrialisation. The Lang factory manufacturing cloths begins in the former Slavata’s yard. This factory had as many as 600 employees.

UNESCO For the historical cost of sights and for its uniquely extant square Telc was listed in 1970 as an urban conservation reserve and in 1992 it was enrolled on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

The Countryside Praskolesy Linden This massive linden tree is 800 years old. Its circumference is nine and a half meters, and up to twelve people can fit inside its hollow trunk. In the past the tree was used as a bell house - this tradition has recently been restored. Micha’s Rock This solitary rock formation in the woods west of the Big Stumpy Pond is an excellent example of weathering during the Cenozoic era.

The Town of Trebic The history of Trebic begins with the foundation of a Benedictine monastery at the beginning of the 12th century. On the left bank of the Jihlava River there are 123 houses of the former Jewish Quarter including the town hall, a school, a hospital and two synagogues. The Jewish Cemetery in Trebic is one of the largest in the Czech Republic.

UNESCO The historic centre of the town has been a protected area since 1990 and the unique Jewish Quarter with St. Procopius' Basilica became one of the National Cultural Sights in 2002.In 2003 they were enrolled on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
