THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG The American Civil War was fought from It was the war that decided the United States would remain a completely unified nation without slavery. The biggest and most important battle of the war occurred right here, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania from July 1-3, 1863 College students became involved with protecting the town and Penn Hall was used as a hospital for hundreds of soldiers from the North and South 51,100 dead, captured, missing, and wounded

AFTER THE WAR November 19 th of that year, Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address at the National Cemetery and students from the college walked from campus to hear him speak. Fifty years later, President Eisenhower was living in Gettysburg as a member on the Board of Trustees for the college.

TODAY Every year, the first-year class of the college walks from campus to the cemetery where Abraham Lincoln gave his speech 150 years ago. Civil War re-enactors dress up and put up shows for tourists, re-enacting what happened in the town and on the battlefields during the battle. The school has very popular Civil War programs for students interested in studying the war and its events in detail, as well as doing their own research reading letters and journals written by survivors and victims of the war.

“GETTYSBURG GREAT” Each Gettysburg student must complete 32 classes for graduation. Each major (such as English, Psychology, Music, Biology, etc.) requires its own number of classes Each student has a different schedule from others and each day looks different Gettysburg students are also known for how involved they are on campus with clubs such as APO (service fraternity), religious groups, and debate clubs (International Affairs, Model UN, etc.)
