 Russell Baker (1925) was born in a rural town in Virginia and grew up in New Jersey and Maryland.  Russell Baker received his B.A. in English from Johns Hopkins University in  Russell Baker worked as a reporter for The Baltimore Sun and then The New York Times.  He's style is generally casual but thoughtful.

 In 1979 he received the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary and autobiography Growing Up in  This article first published in his New York Times column in  Also, This article is entertaining satire of the prose style of much scholarly writing.  He translated this article into modern American language so he is making fun of this language.
