BURROWING OWL BY ALIYAH

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS The burrowing owl can be up to 71/2-10 inches. The burrowing owl can weigh up to 6 ounces. The burrowing owl’s color is brown, black, and white.

HABITAT/RANGE The owls are found from the Mississippi to the Pacific. They are also found in Florida and South America.

EATING HABITS/DIET The burrowing owl is an omnivore. They eat moles and mice during late spring and early summer. Later the burrowing owls switch to insects.

POPULATION There are less than 1o,000 breeding pairs of burrowing owls.

LIFESPAN The burrowing owl can live 9 years in the wild. The burrowing owl can live 10 or more years in captivity.

FUN FACTS Male and female burrowing owls are the same size. The owl uses burrows dug by other animals. The owl quickly flies when they make a hiss sound.

ENDANGERED BECAUSE The habitat is destroyed by people during land development.

ADAPTATIONS Burrowing owls use their beaks to eat predators. They use their teeth to rip meat, tear meat, and chew food. Feather are used to keep their body warm.
