Irish Football Program  Comments from High School Coach Jeff Erdmann  Glory is achieved when the many come together to form that which is invincible - the power of ONE.  Emphasize improvement and fun aspects to football.  All body types needed in football and bodies can change dramatically in the teen years.

Program Overview  Irish Youth Football is comprised of four divisions 3/4 & 5/6 Grade In House League (Junior and Senior)  Teams compete against other teams within the program  Very competitive in the senior division  Goal is to provide your family and your son with a great experience by teaching them the game and a love for the sport. 7 th and 8 th Grade SSYFL Teams  Teams compete in a south metro league at grade level  Goal is to expose athletes to a higher level of play. 5/6 th grade supports our SSYFL program.

IYF - Operating Philosophy  The philosophy of this program is based on player development and competition We want our kids to have a great experience  Work hard- encourage good work habits  Teamwork- make new friends, be positive  Be prepared- show them  Be good sports- talk about this before games  Be good winners- be humble  Be good losers- “its not the end of the world”  Be competitive- always play hard  Each player is valued and will improve  Goal is to have returning players

IYF - Operating Philosophy  What are coaches responsible for? Yourself Your players Your parents Your Attitude Remember- we are all on the same team in the end. Rosemount.

Responsibility of Coaches  Be prepared for each practice & game  Over communicate with parents  Don’t just coach your son or the stars of the team. Develop every kid in some aspect  Play by the rules, please do not look for loop holes in the rules as they are written and intended  Mentorship of one rookie coach  Do not coach for personal gratification, coach for the kids  Gain experience to return for the next season  Appoint a sideline manager ( me their name )

Irish Youth Football Mini-Camp  Purpose  Allows valuable training for our kids and coaches before the evaluations. Run by the High School Coaches and Players  All volunteer time – No fees Introduction to tackle football for our new kids Development for all of our kids Please show up at least 20 minutes before your time slot

Irish Youth Football Combine Week  Purpose  Chance to evaluate each player to facilitate equal distribution of players. We measure: Speed  Drills- 20, 40, Nebraska, Irish agility Contact Day’s: Monday and Tuesday, August 2-3  5 Stations, bring a chair and a clip board  Take good notes  Have a grade on every player  Co-Coaches split up  Meet with your co- coach when completed  We have a new rating form for players

Draft/ Team Formation  This is a FUN night !! Each coach will rate and send me their suggested draft slots for the other coach’s kids before the draft  Draft round and number slot in that round Example - Round 2 middle, high or low You will not rate and slot your own kid Be honest- Kids will be slotted before the draft Be prepared ( meet with your co coach prior to draft ) Take 4 th and 6 th graders first No 3 rd grade players will be 1 st rounders

Irish Youth Football Practice Outline  Warm Up  Full Team Drills- split up, rotate  Blocking  Tackling  Agility Drills  FIND A CENTER or 2 ! Take snaps with QB  Team Defense- responsibilities for each position  Team Offense- repetition is best  Special Teams 1 a week  Fun/Conditioning

IYF Practice Recommendations  Plan ahead – Time is limited! 4 activities per week  Includes Game Nights 2 hrs. during Summer 1.5 hrs. after school starts  Run plays and work on fundamentals  Take frequent water breaks if its hot  Be consistent – Repetition is good  Keep control of practice

Irish Youth Football Other Recommendations  By end of 1 st practice Huddle up and Run a play  Schedule scrimmage by the end of week prior to first game Get your special teams organized early  Small Teams - Get parents involved Hold Dummies Play Defense  Get a 3 rd parent involved Chart Plays – RB carries during game Help with practice  Have a team party

Referees  Drew Storley – High School contact  John Huot – IYF contact  We will add a third referee for 5 th / 6 th  Starting games

Key Rules  Key Rules: (Review the Handbook) Playing Time- start and play on O or D, 1 special team (kickoff or kick return) Ball Carry Rule- atleast 2 carries every eligible game. Give your RB chart to the other team. Weight Limits Line Formations Stoppage of Clock Kick off Rule – Front Line
