Aim: How do you set goals? Do Now: Think about a phys. act. behavior that you would like to change in the near future.

Decision Making  Define the problem to be solved.  Come up with alternatives.  Positives and negatives for each option.  Choose the best option.  Design a plan to carry out the decision.  Evaluate the decision.

The Goal Setting Process  Includes making a clear goal statement that defines a realistic goal, a plan for reaching the goal, and a reward for when the goal is reached.  Goal setting steps Set a goal Look at options Est. a plan Think about rewards for reaching goal Monitor progress Evaluate progress and adjust goal if needed.

How to set a goal  Set a date When will this goal be finished by  Make it achievable Is it something that can realistically happen in the allotted time?  Make it specific Is there any gray area?  Make it measurable Can another person see that you achieved this goal?

Behavior Change Strategies  Stimulus control- Get rid of or change the environment cues that cause you to do the unwanted behavior.  Consciousness raising- Gather info about problems that can occur from the behavior.  Reinforcement reward- Reward yourself for progress on changing the behavior

Behavior Change Strategies  Recruit a partner- Have someone you can call who understands and can help you.  Identify behaviors that coexist- By eliminating one you can eliminate another.  Build in pauses- Allow time to think before you react.
