We will begin by making the sign of the Cross Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen We pause to think of any special intention we want to pray for today. We light our Form Candle for all our prayers today.

Second week of This is a very historical week in the life of our church, as Pope Benedict at 8 pm on Thursday 28th February will step down from his ministry as Pope and Leader of the Catholic Church. The surprise announcement of his retirement to the gathered Cardinals is historical as no Pope has resigned from the Petrine Ministry in Six Centuries. On his final day, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone SDB, the Carmerlengo, appointed by the Pope to be the Cardinal responsible for caring for the church until a new Pope is elected, will break the Fisherman’s ring which was given to Pope Benedict at his inauguration. Pope Benedict will then leave for his Palace at Castel Gandolfo in the mountains outside Rome for a time of rest and prayer before returning to lead a hidden life in a Monastery in the Vatican Gardens. Meanwhile the Church will call the Cardinals to gather together at the Vatican for a ‘Conclave’ to choose a new pope.

Monday 25 th February 2013 Reader:Jesus said: “Do not judge, and you will not be judged yourselves, do not condemn & you will not be condemned, grant pardon and you will be pardoned.” (The Gospel of Luke 6:37) Together let us pray: Lord we pray for our Holy Father in these last days of his papacy. Pour out your blessings on him so that he may be given the strength needed to complete faithfully & fully his remaining ministry as our Pope. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen

Tuesday 26 th February 2013 Reader:Jesus said: “The greatest among you must be your servant.” (Gospel of Matthew 23:12) Together we pray: Loving Father we bring before you Benedict, our Pope, who has served our Church faithfully in his ministry as successor of Peter. May he find peace and consolation as he now turns to a hidden life of study and prayer. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen

Wednesday 27 th February 2013 Reader:“A blessing on those who put their trust in the Lord, with the Lord for their hope. They are like a tree by the stream, that thrust their roots into the water, when the heat comes the leaves stay green and do not shrivel up, and never cease in producing fruit.” (The Prophet Jeremiah 17: 7-8) Together we pray: Father, we thank you for all that Pope Benedict has done to encourage unity among Christians. May the example he has shown bear much fruit in the hearts of all Christians. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen

Thursday 28 th February 2013 Reader:Jesus said: “The Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (The Gospel of Matthew 20:28) Together we pray: Father, we pray in gratitude for the witness of our Holy Father, Pope Benedict, who has preached the message that God is love and we are saved by hope. May you strengthen him in hope, so that he may know more deeply the love you have for him now and for all eternity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

Friday 1 st March 2013 St David (Dewi Sant) Patron of Wales Reader:A Celtic monk, abbot & Archbishop of Wales who lived in the 6th Century & helped spread the good news of Jesus to the Celtic tribes of Western Britain. Reader 2:Jesus said: “You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. No-one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead he puts it on the lamp stand, where it gives light for everyone to see. In the same way Your light must shine before people, so that they will see the Good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.” Together we pray: Father, you called St David, to faithfully proclaim your Gospel to the people of Wales. As our Church waits for a new shepherd, may we dedicate our lives to sharing your good news. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

School Prayer Prayer of Saint Benedict We pray Lord, that everything we do may be prompted by your inspiration, so that every prayer and work of ours may begin from you, and be brought by you to completion. Amen Saint Benedict – Pray for us
