Daugavpils is located on the banks of the Daugava River The Daugava is the longest river in Latvia. Its length in Daugavpils is 16km.

Daug-ava means “great water”. Daugavpils is a multi-national, multi-lingual,multi- confessional, and multi- cultural city. This territory is a home for different communities – Latvian, Russian, Jewish, Polish, Belarus, Ukrainian, Gypsy – where they have been living and cooperating for centuries.
