A brief look at slavery in the Americas

The slave trade was the source of many fortunes in the 17 th, 18 th and 19 th centuries

The so-called “Triangular Trade”

A typical slave ship of the 1700 and 1800s

Where did the slaves come from?

How did they travel? Like this:

Oh, I’m so sorry! You could not see that clearly? Okay then, maybe this will clear things up.

Some people this this is a joke. It is not.

I am sorry, this is not a joke:

Typical settings in the Caribbean and Latin America

Yes, sugar was the main crop in Saint Domingue, Cuba And Brazil.

Slaves were controlled under strict rules or codes. This is one example:

Slavery, as such, was not eliminated in the Americas until 1888 when finally Brazil outlawed it. The first major uprisings were in what was known as Saint Domingue, the French portion of this island. On the Breda Plantation, a massive uprising gave birth to what is now Haiti. Persons such as Toussaint L’ Ouverture, Petion and Christophe took part in this movement.

We can certainly talk more about this.
