This single frame of Doc from Disney’s Snow White, Animator Bill Tytla, shows him removing his glasses and turning his head to demonstrate this idea. His fleshy face distorts for a fraction of a moment in a series of drawings. When these are seen in a movie they look natural but all alone they tend to look ridiculous!
This series of frames from Disney’s Elmer Elephant shows a moving hold. Animator Ham Luske shows us that the pose is made stronger by coasting to another, similar but more extreme pose. It makes the end of an animated action look less stiff and more lifelike.
END!
