Source: Joanna Westbrook, New Milford High School Requirement #1: IDENTIFY THE CONCEPT IN THE PLAY The first two photos will portray the concept as it is expressed in at least two specific lines from the play. In the comment for both photos, group members will quote the lines accurately and include correct MLA style parenthetical documentation. The group members will be the “characters” in the photos and the tableau created must be true to the stage directions.

Requirement #2: CONNECT THE CONCEPT FROM THE PLAY TO YOUR WORLD/LIFE: The next three photos will portray the chosen theme as it is demonstrated in the real world. In the comments for these photos, students must articulate how the concept is connected to the play AND to contemporary society. These photos may be staged or captured from a real life scenario. All photos must be original and not copied from the internet.

Guidelines Each group must have at least one student with a smart phone, ipad, or camera. If a group doesn’t have access to a device, the teacher will arrange for that group to use a spare camera, Apple or Android device. Class Instagram Account: In the event that a student is not permitted by parent or guardian to have an Instagram account or if the student doesn’t want to sign up for one, the teacher should allow access to a class account for the students to use. Students need to be prepared with photos and captions in order to be logged on to Instagram in class by the teacher at least one day prior to the presentations. Each group member must be responsible for the planning/staging/arrangement/comment of at least 1 photo in the collection that is submitted.

Source: Joanna Westbrook, New Milford High School Responsible Use of Technology Students will follow the class Instagram account (BC_EnglishIV) if choosing to post from their own account. After following the class Instagram, they will be followed in return. This is similar to sending a friend request on Facebook. ***Remember, anything they have or will post to Instagram will show in the feed and will be seen by students in classes on the Smartboard during presentation of the projects. With teenagers, this can be a little dangerous, so be sure to remind them of this fact. It is okay if they choose to use the class account as long as they remember to add their group names to each picture for grading purposes.

Reflection Remind students to use their own photos Make your rubric specific Ensure everyone participates Use a peer review sheet and reflection Remind students not to delete pictures until all projects are graded. You can’t control their accounts. Fun way to incorporate social media, mobile devices, and classic literature all into one activity Great way to start or end the school year Another way to connect with and learn about your students Source: Joanna Westbrook, New Milford High School
