5/15/ DESIGN TECHNOLOGY - GRAPHICS MARKETING PRODUCT DESIGN FASHION CLOTHING Refer to the evaluation rubric before you start this unit to find out how you are going to be assessed.

Situation:  You have been asked by the Managing Director of a newly established clothing design company to design exclusive sportswear to target a trendy sports image for sports teams worldwide. The clothing should portray the latest look for the new millennium.

BRIEF: Design and develop trendy fashionable clothing for a sports team of a sport of your choice. Create a name for the new company and design a suitable logo and label to market the clothing. Develop your ideas following the correct design process.

TASK ONE: Foundation studies: UUsing tracing paper and a calligraphy pen trace the given fashion sketches. CComplete given exercises by rendering clothing on fashion models. HOME STUDY: FFind articles of sporting clothing in magazines and cut out and lay them up on a sheet of paper. Write comments beside each article pointing out what you consider to be good and bad features.

TASK TWO:  Watch the video: Fashion Design  Trace the given figure of a normal human body and the graphic artist model figure and compare the differences in ratio of the head to body length. Present your analysis using good graphic techniques.  Write a brief summary of your findings.  Research design ideas.

TASK THREE:  Develop a folio of freehand concept sketches of possible sports clothes. (use the design process)  Write design comments beside each design to highlight its attributes.  Your design ideas are to be presented to the Managing Director for approval and the development of a chosen design. (your teacher will be the acting Managing Director so your design sketches should be presented to a high standard)  Produce freehand developmental drawings of the given fashion figure models.Clothe them with your two best clothing designs and scan them into the computer and produce a one page advertisement.

TASK FOUR:  Using a mind map brainstorm possible names for the new company  Using the computer design a suitable logo to portray the new company name.  Design and develop a display card to be attached to the sports clothes. It must highlight the attributes of the clothing and material and explain how to wash and care for them.The new company logo must also be displayed on the display card.  Present all your drawings in a unit of work with a front cover page.
