NY Ph.: CT Ph.: Types of Heating Systems

Different types of heating systems are used for homes, offices and commercial settings.heating

Types of Heating Systems Forced Air Systems Radiant Heat Systems Hydronic Systems Steam Radiant Systems Geothermal Systems

Forced Air Systems Common type of home heating system. Distributes air from furnace through installed ductwork and vents. Air can be heated with various fuel sources - natural gas, propane, oil or electricity.

Forced Air Systems Ductwork takes space in the walls. May distribute allergens through moving air.

Radiant Heat Systems Can provide natural and comfortable heat. Heat is provided via hot water tubes embedded in the floor or within the ceiling. Hot water is heated by a boiler, fueled by oil, natural gas, propane, or electricity.

Radiant Heat Systems May take time to heat a room. Expensive installation and maintenance.

Hydronic Systems Uses hot water heated by a boiler. Heat circulates in each room through tubes located in baseboard heating units attached to the walls. Controls temperature in each room separately.

Hydronic Systems Energy efficient. Temperature rises slowly.

Steam Radiant System Heats room through radiators. Two varieties- one-pipe and two-pipe systems. Heats water through electricity, oil, or natural gas. Inconvenient for furniture placement and window coverings.

Geothermal System Newest technology for heating and cooling. Mostly used in homes and eco-conscious office spaces. Internal temperature is regulated through natural heat from the ground. System is not cheap to install.
