NCRA National Convention Nashville, TN August 2013

 Stadium Captioning is governed by the Americans with Disabilities Act  Accessible Stadiums document  The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires new stadiums to be accessible to people with disabilities so they, their families, and friends can enjoy equal access to entertainment, recreation, and leisure.  At least one public TDD (telecommunications device for persons who are deaf or who have speech impairments) must be provided. Signs must identify the location of the TDD and provide direction from other telephone banks.  For each bank of public telephones with three or more units, at least one telephone must be equipped with a shelf and electrical outlet to permit a person to use a portable TDD.  Where audible fire alarms or emergency notification is provided, flashing lights are required in public and common use areas, including toilet and bath rooms, locker rooms, and along public corridors.

 Not governed by the FCC  Others cannot “turn off” captions  Emergency information is very important

 Generally do not put up parentheticals for [ Applause ] or [ Booing ] “So, seeing as he was one of the worst free agent signings in Yankees history, when he was introduced yesterday at Yankee Stadium the boo birds came out...even on the scoreboard. Man, that's just cold. Even the hearing impaired now know how much people hate Carl Pavano.”

 The in-stadium game-day experience is very important to your clients

 Sponsor recognition is very important

 You will be providing captions for events during TV time-outs  Contests  Prizes

 Every stadium is different  Line lengths can be different

 How do you connect?  Encoder  Via the server

 Two computers  Writer  Serial port for encoder  Noise canceling headphones

 Every client is different  NCRA is trying to get a consistent policy on lyrics for stadium captioning

 Bathroom breaks  Scripts  Names of officials/referees  Fan Code of Conduct  Identify the PA only – everyone else is >>

 Master your roster  Home town  University  Height/weight  Statistics  Depth Chart  Injury Report  Coaches  History of Team
