YELLOW RIVER 2006

NATURE SHOTS

EXTREME MAKEOVER: SPOOK CAVE EDITION

GOOD NEWS! SPOOK CAVE DOESN’T SMELL SO BAD! BAD NEWS! THERE’S NO ROOF (IT RAINED THAT NIGHT).

GOOD NEWS! SPOOK CAVE ISN’T PITCH BLACK INSIDE! BAD NEWS! ONLY DURING THE DAY AND IT’S CREEPY GREEN. On a side note, the DNR let us know that the roof would be opaque so women wouldn’t have to worry about guys climbing the trees to look down on them. Huh?!? Was this a worry for anyone?

PEOPLE & STUFF

Even with help, Dave had a rough time setting up his new tent.

THINGS I’D RATHER NOT HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO

MIDDLE AGED WOMEN IN CHEERLEADER SKIRTS.

SEEING HOW MANY REDNECKS CAN FIT INTO ONE TRUCK BED. NOTE: THIS IS LESS THAN HALF THE AVAILABLE REDNECKS THAT DAY.

THIS ONE SHOULD BE SELF-EXPLANITORY.

JIM & ERIKA’S YR ADVENTURE Because they were due to become parents around the same time as Yellow River, Jim and Erika couldn’t make it this year. I had a suspicion that they wouldn’t be able to stay away, though, and I was right.

Come the weekend, we found them lurking in the bushes.

“Who says a pregnant chick can’t have a fun time camping?” says Erika.

As always, Jim could either be found with the fire poker in his hand or taking over the music selection.

Erika, of course, found some time to rest while Jim did his thing.

Even though they try not to, both Jim and Erika have a hard time passing up a free smoke when they’re out in the woods.

You could tell that expecting a baby was good for them, because they were both very playful.

Like most years, Erika braved the icy cold waters of the creek.

But unlike most years, Jim decided to get in too. His lack of experience in the creek showed.

It was great to have them along this year, but the campers began to wonder if it was just too much for the soon-to-be parents. By the end of the weekend, they started acting a little bit…odd.

Erika, a vegetarian, was seen pigging out on breakfast sausage.

For his part, Jim was acting a little bit wooden. It’s Log, It’s Log. It’s Big. It’s Heavy. It’s Wood.

Campers’ worries increased as they got even friskier.

It got to the point where we didn’t know what to expect next.

But it was very easy to tell when it had gone too far.

THE END
