Who Gives A Hoot About….
Presentation transcript:

It started off on the bus that was going to Trace Middle School in Miami Florida. As you get more into the book the settings change… it goes from a field where they were going to build an All-American Pancake House, to Roy’s House 2 blocks away from the bus stop, then to the junkyard, after that to the hospital, and then back to the field.

 Roy Eberhardt is the more quiet kid, he likes to read comics and go through new adventures.  Dana Matherson is the big 8 th grade bully. He is the one who has been bullying Roy throughout the story.  Curly, the foreman, works hard at his job trying to keep the field clear so they can start building the All-American Pancake House. Curly is bald and a little chubby.  Officer Delinko is the person who has to catch the vandals.  Beatrice Leep is a tall girl with red glasses and blonde hair. She helps Roy through his adventure.  Napoleon Leep or Mullet Fingers is Beatrice’s step- brother. Roy tries to find out more about him but doesn’t find much until the end.  Last is Garret is a FAKE-FART CHAMPION. He is also a friend of Roy throughout the book.

Roy keeps getting bullied by Dana. He can’t find out much about Mullet Fingers. Officer Delinko and Curly can’t find the vandals who keep messing with the Pancake House project. Officer Delinko gets suspended from his job for a few weeks because he fell asleep on the job.

Roy ends up finding out a lot of things about Mullet Fingers, like his real name. Roy also stood up to Dana and doesn’t get bullied so much anymore. Curly and Officer Delinko found out who the vandals were… it was Mullet Fingers with a little help from Roy and Beatrice. Officer Delinko gets his job back for finding the vandals and gets put in the newspaper.

It was a really good book. It had good action and dialogue. It even had some interesting facts about Florida in it.

Carl Hiaasen has been writing since his father gave him a typewriter at the age 6. Now Hiaasen writes columns for the Miami Herald. He is the author of many best selling novels for adults, including Sick Puppy and Basket Case. Hoot is Hiaasen’s first novel for young readers. It is full of revealing the good, the bad, and the state of Florida.

Roy Eberhardt is the new kid in school. Him and his family have lived all over and the bullies were alike everywhere until he met Dana Matherson. If it wasn’t for Dana, smashing his face against the bus window,he would have never seen Mullet Fingers. Feeling a mystery Roy follows the boy. The chase introduces him to some different creatures in Florida, such as, some burrowing owls, a fake-fart champion, a renegade eco-avenger, several poisonous snakes, a sinister pancake house PR man, and some potty trained alligators. L ife in Florida is looking up.
