Introduction Peckham Space marks the start of a new partnership between Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London and Southwark Council. The launch of Peckham Space will play an important role in the larger development of Peckham’s cultural quarter.

Key Aims of Peckham Space To develop sustainable partnerships between University of the Arts London, Southwark Council, community groups and cultural organisations. To increase participation in the arts.

Key Aims of Peckham Space To establish a successful model for working with artists in a regeneration context. To provide professional development opportunities for artists and students engaged in the delivery of the programme.

Peckham Space’s Artistic Programme

Artistic Programme Peckham Space’s artistic programme focuses on socially engaged art and new media practices in the public realm. Each year the programme will feature: 4 Public Art Commissions 1 Bespoke Website 4 Public Events 12 Workshops 4 Public Talks 1 Evaluation Report

Artistic Programme The Peckham Space will launch June 2008: Peckham TV CCTV Station Street Training Demos Talks Peckham Space Director Emily Druiff, has an MA in Curating from Goldsmiths University during which she specialised in curating participatory practices and new media in the public realm.

Peckham TV 21 June Peckham Square Public Talk 19 June Wilson Road Lecture Hall Demos ‘Social Change / Contemporary Art?’ Peckham TV features international artist Harold Offeh and art collective The People Speak. The artists will invite public response to Peckham’s negative media portrayal by creating a positive advert.

Street Training 20 September Peckham Square Public Talk 4 September South London Gallery General Public Agency ‘Participation / Contemporary Art?’ Street Training features international artist Lottie Child and the net-art organization Furtherfield.org. Artists will invite participants on an experiential tour of Peckham. The tour will challenge conventional uses of public space developed in collaboration with young girls from Peckham Academy.

CCTV Station 2009 Peckham Square Public Talk 2009 Brian Holmes ‘Surveillance / Public Realm?’ CCTV Station will feature Media Shed and Office of Experiments. CCTV station will be an interactive environment inviting audiences to survey public space from a different viewpoint.

Demos Talks Public Talk Demos Talks will feature Demos, the think tank for 'everyday democracy’ who will work with Peckham Space’s to produce a research paper featuring each of the commissioned artworks. Demos Talks will be published as part of a conference in 2009 as well as being available online as a PDF and Audio File.

Peckham Space Partnerships

Partnerships Radio Peckham will work with Peckham Space to broadcast updates on their cultural fix slot ‘The Primer’ on the first Monday of every month at 7pm. Radio Peckham is a community radio station for South East London. Kids Company will work with Peckham Space to deliver workshops facilitated by commissioned artists with young people living in Peckahm. Kids Company is a charity founded by Camila Batmanghelidjh in 1996 which offers practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner city children and young people.

Partnerships Kickstart will work with Peckham Space to deliver workshops facilitated by commissioned artists with young people from Peckham. Kickstart is a flagship youth inclusion programme, part of the national charity Crime Concern. Youth and Connexions service will work with Peckham Space to deliver workshops facilitated by commissioned artists for young people from Peckham. The youth and connexions service provides youth work and advice to eleven to nineteen year olds through learning, leisure and recreational opportunities.

Peckham Space Funders

Funders Camberwell College of Arts This partnership will develop and expand on Camberwell College of Arts’ long term commitment to widening access to the arts within the locale of South East London and at a national level. Southwark Council’s Peckham Programme plays a central role in the creation of a sustainable community for Peckham. It’s key objective is in the development and enrichment of Peckham over the short, medium and long term.

Funders Arts Council England fully endorse Peckham Space’s aims to increase participation in the arts and develop sustainable links with community groups that are located near Peckham Square, London SE5. The Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) is provided to Universities by the Higher Education Funding Council for England on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. The University’s generous financial support of Peckham Space will play a direct and key role in the development of Peckham’s cultural quarter.

Funders The Ian Evers Tregarthen Jenkin Fund was set up in memory of art educator Ian Evers Tregarthen Jenkin who passed away in He was Principal of Camberwell College of Arts between 1975 and The first private donation to support Peckham Space was generously granted by the Fund. The donation will provide salaried staff to help the smooth and successful running of Peckham Space.
