4 Apply Numbering and Bullets  Three types of lists –  Bullet  Numbered  Multi-level list  How do you determine which format to use in a list?

5 Numbering and Bullets  Bullet and Number List are types of hanging indents.  Bulleted lists are an effective way to format lists of items that don’t have to appear in any specific order. (Use numbered lists for items that fall in a set order.)  Items in a bulleted list are marked by small icons— dots, diamonds, and so on.  In Word, you can create bulleted lists from scratch, change existing lines of text into a bulleted list, choose from a number of bullet styles, create levels within a bulleted list, and insert a symbol or picture as a bullet.  By creating and formatting a bulleted list, you can draw attention to major points in a document.

6 Apply Numbering and Bullets – Using Autoformat Feature  If you type 1., press the spacebar, type a paragraph of text, and then press the Enter key, Word indents the number approximately 0.25 inch from the left margin and then hang indents the text in the paragraph approximately 0.5 inch from the left margin. Additionally, 2. is inserted 0.25 inch from the left margin at the beginning of the next paragraph. Continue typing items and Word inserts the next number in the list.  This is known as Word’s AutoFormat feature – it automatically continues the bulleted format.  To turn off numbering, press the Enter key twice or click the Numbering button in the Paragraph group.

7 Apply Numbering and Bullets Using Autoformat feature…continued  When the AutoFormat feature inserts numbering and indents text, the AutoCorrect Options button displays. Click this button and a drop-down list displays with options for undoing and/or stopping the automatic numbering.

8 Turn Off Automatic Numbering and Bullets… To turn off automatic numbering: 1.Click the File tab. 2.Click the Options button. 3.Click the Proofing option. 4.Click the AutoCorrect Options button. 5.At the AutoCorrect dialog box, click the AutoFormat As You Type tab. 6.Click the Automatic numbered lists check box to remove the check mark. 7.Click OK two times. 9 Apply Numbering To create a numbered paragraph: 1.Select the desired text. 2.Click the Numbering button in the Paragraph group in the Home tab. Numbering button

10 Apply Bullets… To create bulleted paragraphs: 1.Select the desired text. 2.Click the Bullets button in the Paragraph group in the Home tab. Bullets button

11 Apply Bullets…continued  Bulleted lists with hanging indents are automatically created when a paragraph begins with the symbol *, >, or -.  Type one of the symbols, press the spacebar, type text, and then press Enter.  The AutoFormat feature inserts a bullet approximately 0.25 inch from the left margin and indents the text following the bullet another 0.25 inch.

12 Changing the Look of List  Word provides several options for changing the look of a list.  You can change a list’s formatting by changing the type of bullet or numbering that is displayed.  Some formats, such as round bullets, work well for most documents..

13 Apply Multi-Level List  A multilevel list, like single-level ones, can be bulleted or numbered — but with the added bonus that you can mix numbers, letters, and bullets.  So, for example, one layer could be bulleted, with a numbered list inside it.

14 Sort Text in Paragraphs  When you want to organize data into descending or ascending order.  Ascending order – A-Z; 1-10; earliest to latest  Descending order – Z-a; 10 – 1, latest to earliest

15 Sort Text in Paragraphs To sort paragraphs of text: 1.Click the Sort button in the Paragraph group in the Home tab. 2.Make any needed changes at the Sort Text dialog box. 3.Click OK. Sort Text dialog box

19 Leader Tab Stops…continued leaders  The four types of tabs can also be set with leaders. Leaders are useful in a table of contents or other material where you want to direct the reader’s eyes across the page.  Leaders can be periods (.), hyphens (-), or underlines (_). To add leaders to a tab, click the type of leader desired in the Leader section of the Tabs dialog box.

20 CREATING TAB STOPS USING RULER  By default, left-aligned tab stops are set every half- inch on the ruler.  To set a tab at a different position on the ruler, you can click the tab selector at the left end of the ruler, then position the insertion point on the ruler and click. A ScreenTip will appear showing the type of tabs at the tab selector.  After tabs are set, press the Tab key; the insertion point will stop at the position set. To move a tab stop to a different position on the ruler, click and drag it left or right to a new position.

21 Manipulate Tabs Using Ruler…continued A ScreenTip will appear when you place your pointer over the tab selector. The tab selector and horizontal ruler are shown in the figure below, displaying the different types of tabs.

24 Set Tabs Using Alignment Button To set tabs on the Ruler: 1.Click the Alignment button on the Ruler. 2.Click the desired location on the Ruler. Alignment button

25 Manipulate Tab Using Dialog Box  The Tabs dialog box is useful for setting tabs at precise locations on the ruler, clearing all tabs, and setting tab leaders.

27 Removing Tab Stops  Tabs can be removed by dragging, or you can use the Tabs dialog box to clear one or all tabs.  To remove a tab stop from the ruler, click and drag it off the ruler. When you release the mouse button, the tab stop disappears.  Or, open the Tabs dialog box, where you can choose to clear one tab or all tabs.
