Meaning of Preaching & Teaching 2 Timothy 4:2

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Preaching & Teaching Whose role is it to preach & teach? o Priest and Bishops o Sunday School Teachers o Students o All Christians

Preaching & Teaching Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. o Preach the Word in season and out of season o Convince o Rebuke o Exhort o Must have longsuffering

Preach Word in & out of Season How do we preach in and out of Season o We must learn and experience the teachings of the Christ Not just knowing dates and figures Not just studying for a test We must comprehend & internalize Then we reflect internally on how it transforms us, and then reflect that back to the world.

Convice We must be able to convince our students of the Faith. o We must speak from experience o We must speak with Reason, not the reason of man, but the Reason that has been Revealed to us from God

Rebuke We must be able to Rebuke one another, and our students to lead them in the Faith. o Without being rebuked we cannot grow, we stay stagnant. o Must be done in love, and not anger or spite o Must come from a grounding in Christ teaching, and not our own understanding.

Exhort To exhort, we first have to know the faith, to help lead them. o We must live out our faith o We must work out our faith in fear and trembling

Longsuffering/Patience Last of all, we must have longsuffering and Patience o Only through perseverance of faith can we overcome all the ups and downs of our spiritual journey o Only through longsuffering can we see the fruits of our labor in teaching our children o Only through patience do we see God’s presence in our life.
