Red Jacket’s attitude toward the reverend is both respectful and straightforward. He continuously refers to him as “brother” and even “friend.” He expresses appreciation for the opportunity to be heard as an equal. Since the reverend has traveled quite far, Red Jacket states that he doesn’t “wish to detain” him. This respectful introduction allows the Native American to then present his reasons in a direct and logical manner.
