INTRODUCTION

GENERAL INFORMATION Genetron® PerformaxTM LT (Honeywell) ASHRAE Refrigerant Designation: R407F Currently, substitute refrigerant also for R404A in EU

INTRODUCTION Applications with reciprocating compressors on R407F Since beginning 2012 Compressor calculations on R407F with .2 Generation Department of Application Engineering on request NEW ECOLINE Performance data with R407F included in the BITZER software as standard

CURRENT SITUATION IN THE EU Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on fluorinated greenhouse gases (7th November 2012) HFC of very high GWP (>2500) will not be permitted from 2020 onwards It affects recharging of existing refrigeration equipment For systems with a charge size over 5 tonnes of CO2 equivalent

CIC CONTROLLED LIQUID INJECTION

CIC: CONTROLLED LIQUID INJECTION KT-130 for further information about CIC system

CIC: CONTROLLED LIQUID INJECTION CE4 – BE6 BITZER ECOLINE with R407F

CIC: CONTROLLED LIQUID INJECTION BITZER NEW ECOLINE Compressor must be equipped with CIC system for R407F LT applications Motor version 2 must be selected for CIC operation Additional cooling is required Performance data with CIC already available (Web Software) Part-load operation with CIC (motor 2 and additional cooling): Only at CR≥50% and to ≥ -40°C Frequency Inverter operation with CIC is not approved Box-type Condensing Unit: to ≥ -40°C and without additional fan

SUPERMARKET APPLICATIONS

R407F AS SUBSTITUTE FOR R404A Temporary retrofit solution to comply with EU Proposal (GWP<2500 from 2020 onwards) Future restrictions in EU, e.g. from 2030 onwards, are unknown MT and LT applications Higher COP/EER of the compressor Approximately same compressor size Effect of temperature glide (6,4 K) on efficiency depending on the system

R407F AS SUBSTITUTE FOR R404A High discharge gas temperature Needs to be considered in LT applications CIC system offers an additional protection for CE4 – BE6 e.g. from high discharge gas temperatures in LT applications due pressure fluctuations in the system

R407F AS SUBSTITUTE FOR R404A Design alternatives to single-stage systems in LT applications (reduction of DGT) Booster System with Economizer with Liquid Injection at medium pressure Cascade System Two-stage compressor

R134a/CO2 HYBRID SYSTEMS Recommended solution by BITZER R134a requires larger compressor size, but: Higher COP/EER than R407F Lower GWP than R407F Lower leakage rate than R407F

R134a/CO2 HYBRID SYSTEMS In the EU: Further reductions of CO2 emissions are most likely Currently, no alternative to R407F with lower GWP and same cooling capacity available In the system: Temperature glide of R407F (6,4 K) Negative effect on system’s efficiency (cascade HX) Already available substitute refrigerants for R134a retrofit

R134a/CO2 HYBRID SYSTEMS For OUR customers: R134a is the best choice for the high stage of the system R134a/CO2 is the best choice for supermarket applications
