My Special Number 24

My Special Number My special number is 24. I chose the number 24 because 24 is one of my lucky numbers. 24 is cool in a sense that the next multiple of 2 is 4.

Why is 24 the most significant number? 24 is the most significant number because 24 is used really often. They would go “ The store will be open 24/7 ”

Connections of 24 to The World UN Day is on the 24 th of October. 24 is a movie There are highways that involve 24 like: US Route 24 in US, Utah Highway 24 also in US, Fishing Highway 24 in Canada. There is a website called 24dogs.com and 24.com Usually you have 24 eggs in a tray. There are 24 hours in a day 24/7 that means 24 hours in a day and days in a week. The series The Amazing Race went to 24 cities.

Social and Cultural Facts In music, there are 24 major and minor keys in Western tonal music In soccer, 24 is the number of teams that participated in each FILA World Cup finals tournament between 1982 and 1994. In baseball, The jersey number of MLB All-Star, Manny Ramirez from the Boston Red Sox The jersey number of MLB All-Star, Robinson Cano for the 2007 season.

More Social and Cultural Facts In basketball, The jersey number of NBA star, Kobe Bryant (from the 2006-07 season, onwards) There are 24 number of letters in both the modern and classical Greek alphabet. In beliefs, 24 is considered an unlucky number in Cantonese culture because its pronunciation is similar to that of "easy to die". For this reason, many buildings skip this floor number. The same goes for 13, 34, 44, etc.

A Historical Fact The Twenty-Four Histories is a collection of books of Chinese historical talking about the period of history from 3000 BC to the 17th period

Investigation 1 Factors: (One of two or more whole numbers that are multiplied to get a product.) They are 1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24 Proper Factors: (All factors of a number, except the number itself.) 24’s Proper Factors are 1,2,3,4,6,8 & 12. divisor: (A number used to divide another. ) So if the problem is 24 divided by 2, 2 is the divisor. Quotient: ( means the answer to a division problem) The quotient to 24 divided by 2 is 12 another is 24 divided by 4 is 6. ( So it is kind of multiplication backwards)

dividend: (Is the number being divided in a division question) So if I have 24 divided by 2, 24 is the dividend because 24 is the number being divided. divisible by: Numbers are divisible by 24 if the sum of all the individual digits is evenly divisible by 24. For example, the sum of the digits for the number 3432 is 12, which is evenly divisible by 24 so the number 3432 is evenly divisible by 24.

Remainder: ( The number that was not divided equally) 24 divided by 13 is when you get a remainder because 13 doesn't’ t go in to 24 evenly because 13 is not a factor of 24. Some examples of numbers that will have a remainder if divided with 24 are 15,17, 13, 23, and 19. Abundant Number : (Proper Factors add up to more than itself.) 24 is a Abundant Number.

Multiples: ( The product of a given whole number and another whole number) Some of the multiples of 24 are 24,48,72,96,120,etc. Products: (answer to a multiplication problem) Some of the products of 24 are 24 times 2 is 48, 24 times 3 is 72, 24 times 4 is 96, etc. Composite Number. (A number that has factors other than itself.) 24 is a composite number because it has factors.

Mathematical Reflections #1 Write something new that you have learned about your special number now that you have played the Factor Game and the Product Game. Would your special number be a good first move in either game? Something I have learned about the Factor Game is that 24 is a ok first move but I will have to get more careful after the factors of 24 are circled. For the Product Game I just learned that you have to be careful on what factor pair you picked because your opponent might block you in their turn. My number 24 would be a good first move in the Factor Game. It is acceptable because it is not an awesome move but it works. In the Product Game if you use 4 and 6 it will be a good first move because the only numbers your opponent can block you is 12 and 32.

Investigation 2 Factor Pairs: (Two whole numbers that are multiplied to get a product.) The pair 2,12 is a factor pair of 24 because 2 times 12 is 24. Rectangles: 24 has 4 rectangles all together which means 24 has 4 factor pairs really. The rectangles 24 has are 1 times 24, 2 times 12, 3 times 8, and 4 times 6. Even: (A even number is a multiple of 2.) 24 is a even number because it is a multiple of 2.

6 times 4 is shown a rectangle with dimensions like this: Dimensions: (The dimensions of a rectangle are the lengths of its sides.) 6 times 4 is shown a rectangle with dimensions like this:

Mathematical Reflections #2 Write about your special number. What can you say about your number now? Is your number odd or even? How many factor pairs does your number have? 24 is a even number. It has 4 factor pairs which are 1 and 24, 2 and 12, 3 and 8, and 4 and 6. Some of 24s’ multiples are 24,48,96,192,and etc.

Investigation 4 Factor tree: The Factor tree of 24 is : So 2 times 3 times 2 times 2 is the Prime Factorization. 24     6 times 4   2 times 3 2 times 2

factor string: The longest factor string is also the Prime Factorization. But there can be a lot if factor strings of 24. Like 2 times 12, 3 times 8, 2 times 2 times 6.

prime factorization: The Prime Factorization of 24 is 2 times 2 times 2 times 3. Which all the numbers are Prime. Relatively prime: Numbers whose GCF ( greatest common factor) is 1. For example 24 and 25 are Relatively Prime because their GCF is 1.

Mathematical Reflections # 4 What is its prime factorization? 24’s prime Factorization is 2, 2, 2, and 3.

Quiz Time!!! What are 24’s factor pairs? What is the phase people say often with the number 24 in it? Is 24 a even number? What was the first fact I told you? Is 24 a unlucky number in Cantonese? 24s’ factor pairs are: 1 & 24, 2 & 12, 3 & 8, 4 & 6,1 & 24 The store will open at 24/7 Yes 24 is a even ? That 2s next multiple is 4 so 24!!

The Answers... What are 24’s factor pairs? 24’s factor pairs are: 1 and 24, 2 and 12, 3 and 8, and 4 and 6. What is the phase people say often with the number 24 in it? The store will be open 24/7 Is 24 a even number? Yes, 24 is a even number What was the first fact I told you? That 2’s next multiple is 4 Is 24 a unlucky number in Cantonese?
