 James E. Slaughter,  Colonel John S. Ford and  Theodore H. Barrett…commander Barrett had been an officer since 1862, but was without combat experience.

 The battle didn’t last very long like other battles.  The battle lasted three days.  May 12, 1865-May 15, 1865.

 The confederates suffered only 5 minor wounds in the skirmist at Palmito Ranch.  30 union soldiers were killed or wounded and 113 suffered.

 The last fighting by land forces of any size during the war, Palmito Ranch was a confederate victory!!  It’s outcome had absolutely no bearing on the war and was a useless waste of life. The engagement was evenly fought, the war was ending all the same.

 None, the battle of Palmito Ranch had no affect on the Civil War and was completely pointless.

 The battle of Palmito Ranch was the last battle of the Civil War.

 Palmito was the last battle of the Civil War.  John S. Ford was often called “Rest in peace.” (R.I.P)  In order to avoid a formal surrender, Col. Ford disbanded his Cavalry of the West 13 days after his victory at Palmito Ranch.
