M16A2 SERVICE RIFLE

Lesson Purpose The purpose of this period of instruction is to introduce you to the M19A2 Rifle and the care and cleaning of this service rifle.

M16A2 Service Rifle A 5.56 mm, magazine fed, gas operated, air cooled, shoulder-fired weapon that can be fired either in automatic three-round bursts or semi- automatic single shots as determined by the position of the selector lever.

NOTE: Never move the brush back and forth inside the bore. Do not attempt to remove and discoloration caused by heat. Cleaning Lubricant Protectant (CLP) is the only lubricant authorized to be used on the M16A2.

FIRE ARMS SAFETY RULES Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot. Keep a straight finger, off the trigger, until you are ready to fire. Keep weapon on safe until you are ready to fire.
