Modern Warfare Mr. Place

Evolution of the battlefield

Strategy Strategy, a word of military origin, refers to a plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal.

Strategy Strategy is distinct from tactics, which are concerned with the conduct of an engagement, while strategy is concerned with how different engagements are linked.

Strategy How a battle is fought is a matter of tactics: the terms and conditions that it is fought on and whether it should be fought at all is a matter of strategy. There are four levels of warfare: political goals or grand strategy, strategy, operations, and tactics

Strategy Political goals or Grand Strategy Example would be Germany in WWII

Strategy Strategy, operations Example would be Germany invading France in WWII

Strategy Tactics Example would be once the battle starts the the German SS using fire team rushes to overtake defensive positions.

Evolution of the battlefield How did the bow change the way war was fought both physically and socially?

Evolution of the battlefield The bow gave the common man a important role on the battlefield. You did not need a lot of money to have a bow unlike the Knight. The battlefield change quickly and tactics had to adapt.

Evolution of the battlefield

The musket come along and is the bigger stronger bow of its day. However, it is not as accurate and becomes expensive.

Evolution of the battlefield

The price of a musket would drop over time because of the mass production of the weapon.

Evolution of Ammo

Without the evolution of ammo the rifle would not have advanced as quickly over the years. A rifle is only as good as the ammo that it shoots.

Evolution of the Rifle

Lever-Action Rifle The Lever Action rifle is a much faster shooting weapon and becomes very popular during westward expansion. It was very durable and became a very popular weapon in the United States Calvary

Bolt-Action Rifle

Evolution of the Rifle The arrival of the Bolt-Action rifle provided a new style of weapon that was very accurate. The Bolt-Action was very durable much like the Lever-Action but was more accurate at longer distances.

Evolution of the Rifle The Bolt-Action Rifle becomes very popular in infantry unites and is the rifle of choice It is believed that the Bolt-Action rifle will force soldiers to fire an accurate shot.

Evolution of the Rifle

As the rifle becomes more successful on the battlefield the infantry becomes more important. Many Generals believed that the with the introduction of the Airplane and Tank, the infantry would fill a smaller roll.

Evolution of the Rifle

The use of a semi-auto rifle becomes very popular to modern day infantry. This gives the infantry more fire-power and spreads the battlefield out even more. Every man has the ability to place multiple rounds down rang.

Evolution of the Rifle This new capability changes warfare and allows special operations teams the ability to maintain a high level of firepower in small groups. This high rate of fire contributes to a produces a different mentality when it comes shooting in America culture.

Evolution of the Rifle The production of the M-16 and Ak-47 give a full-automatic option for ground troops and becomes the new age for infantry weapons. There is also a major change in the size of ammo that is used

Evolution of the Rifle The U.S. Military moves to a 5.56 mm round This round is smaller but allows the weapon to hold a larger number of bullets. There are both pros and cons.

M-16

North Atlantic Treaty Organization The development of NATO has a major impact on the type of weapons and Ammo that are used in the U.S. Military. This also impacts the the civilian market and the police force throughout the country. Smaller becomes better.

M-16 The M-16 is a very accurate and light rifle. It is easy to clean but malfunctions easily. Has problems early but over time these become fixed.

AK-47

Soviet assault rifle that is the most produced weapon in the world today. Does not have the range of the M-16 but shoots a heavier round and is full-Automatic. Is a very durable weapon that is easy to break down and clean.

AK-47
