Flintlock Musket Replaced some previous designs such as the matchlock, a gun with a slow burning fuse and an early trigger to ignite the gunpowder. Used a metal striker to hit a piece of flint rock against metal to cause a spark. Sometimes unreliable because flint is easily broken and is hard to use to make sparks when it is wet. Took as long as half a minute to prepare for another shot The standard weapon of infantry during the Revolutionary War. Later replaced by more reliable percussion cap. ia/commons/6/6f/Bulletfixed1.PNG ommons/thumb/9/94/.303ammunition.j peg/220px-.303ammunition.jpeg

Rifle Surprisingly were not the weapon of choice Took much longer to load than a conventional musket. Modified rifles are still in use today Rifle- What makes them a “rifle” is the rifling or spiraling inside the barrel, causing the bullet to spiral much like a football, drastically increasing the accuracy. ifling.jpg/600px-105mm_tank_gun_Rifling.jpg

Bayonet Bayonet- In short, a bayonet is a knife stuck on the barrel of a gun so you could use you gun like a spear. Original bayonets were mounted inside the barrel but were soon replaced with more advanced side mounted designs. a1/Bayonette-p jpg/611px-Bayonette-p jpg

Cannons Cannons were very hard to load They took between 7 to 14 people to operate Would fire almost anything you could put down the barrel but worked best with cannonballs. Could be used to destroy ships with large cannonballs or to kill infantry in the same way a shotgun would.

Submarine Called the turtle, it was basically a hollow sphere that someone rode in to attach explosives to the hull of a ship. The turtle did sail (if you could say “sail”) but failed to get the explosives attached to the hull of the ship. Only saw one mission because it was lost when the ship transporting it was sunk. arine_museum.jpg/452px-Turtle_model_at_the_Royal_navy_submarine_museum.jpg

Bullets Soldiers actually cast their own ammunition. Used molds to cast bullets Poured molten lead into a mold, let cool, and then removed to use in combat Rose-round_shot.JPG/220px-MaryRose-round_shot.JPG
