TO FULFILL THIS MISSION, THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR EYE FOUNDATION:  ANNUALLY INVITES ELIGIBLE INVESTIGATORS TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR OPHTHALMOLOGY RESEARCH GRANTS FOR THE AWARD PERIOD WHICH NORMALLY RUNS FROM JULY 1 TO JUNE 30  SUPPORTS THE FOUNDATION OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF OPHTHALMOLOGY’S EYECARE AMERICA’S SENIORS EYECARE PROGRAM  SUPPORTS THE AAO’S PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY/STRABISMUS SUBSPECIALTY AREA OF THE OPHTHALMIC NEWS AND EDUCATION (ONE®) NETWORK -- NAMED THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR EYE FOUNDATION, INC., PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY EDUCATION CENTER IN PERPETUITY 3

ORIGIN AND HISTORY OF THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR EYE FOUNDATION, INC.  THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR EYE FOUNDATION, INC. WAS FOUNDED BY THE GRAND ENCAMPMENT OF KNIGHTS TEMPLAR IN 1955 AND INCORPORATED THE FOLLOWING YEAR  EARLIEST GOAL WAS TO CORRECT STRABISMUS OR “CROSSED EYES” IN CHILDREN 4

 SINCE ITS INCORPORATION IN 1956 OVER $140 MILLION HAS BEEN EXPENDED ON RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND PATIENT CARE  OVER $23 MILLION IN GRANTS HAVE BEEN AWARDED TO RESEARCHERS WORKING IN THE FIELDS OF OPHTHALMOLOGY AND OPHTHALMOLOGIC GENETICS 5

PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY EDUCATION CENTER  IN THE FULFILLMENT OF OUR MISSION THE KTEF HAS PARTNERED WITH THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF OPHTHALMOLOGY TO CREATE A PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY EDUCATION CENTER AS PART OF THE ACADEMY’S OPHTHALMIC NEWS AND EDUCATION (ONE®) NETWORK  THE EDUCATION CENTER WILL ENSURE A STRONG EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF OPHTHALMOLOGISTS, AND BY DOING SO, ELIMINATE A LACK OF OPHTHALMIC EDUCATION AS A CONTRIBUTOR TO GLOBAL BLINDNESS  THE EDUCATION CENTER WILL ALSO SPEED THE ADOPTION OF NEW KNOWLEDGE, TECHNOLOGY, AND TREATMENTS 22
