Purpose of Slide Show The purpose of the slide show is to share facts with our class, our group, and make some friends in our group. We also have to learn more about our own explorer.

Introduction of Explorer Christopher Columbus was a great navigator and could organize expeditions well. He wanted to find valuables and to sail into the Indies.

What Country Sponsored the Explorer and the Opportunity Costs that were Incurred The sponsoring country for his expedition was Spain. Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain gave him money for his expedition. Since King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella gave him money, even though he discovered new things, he had to give it to them.

Map of Expedition (1) Christopher Columbus started at Spain going East to the Bahamas. When they landed in the Bahamas, the Santa Maria got shipwrecked on Christmas Eve. When they were going back to Spain, a storm came and separated the ships. The crew never met again.

Settlement Struggles or Accomplishments in the New Land He adapted because he and his crew drank the water, ate the food, and stayed there for a while. After, he left 40 men behind.

Voyage 1 Christopher Columbus left on Aug. 3, 1492 from Palos, Spain. His three ships were called the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Christopher Columbus led the Santa Maria. From Palos they sailed to the Bahamas in North America.

Map of Expedition (2) He sailed from Cadiz to Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. Christopher Columbus came back to Spain in This time, there was no navigation problems.

Voyage 2 On Oct. 1493, Christopher Columbus left from Cadiz to Hispaniola. The rest of the crew discovered the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. In Hispaniola, nearby, he found a new colony.

Map of Expedition (3) He was forced to move convicts as colonists. He started at Hispaniola and ended up at Trinidad. This time, his navigation problems were O.K.

Voyage 3 Christopher Columbus sailed in During his expedition, he went across the mouth of the Orinoco River and realized he saw another continent. But, he hurried back to Hispaniola to see his colonists.

Map of Expedition (4) Christopher Columbus still vowed to find Asia or Japan. He took four ships with him on his expedition. This time, his navigation was wrong because he never found Asia or Japan.

Voyage 4 In 1502, he found Honduras, Central America. He sailed southward along an inhospitable shore, suffering terrible hardships until he reached the Gulf of Darien. He reached Jamaica and got marooned.

Early Life of Explorer He was born in His exact birthday is unknown. Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy. He went to sea at age 13. Christopher Columbus’ father didn’t want him to be an explorer.

Later Life of Explorer He died in Valladolid, Spain. Christopher Columbus died on May 20,1506. The reason was because of neglect. He thought he was a failure when he died.

Cooperation or Conflict with Native Americans All in all, the Native Americans were glad to see him in Hispaniola. But he found a colony that was destroyed by indigenous natives. When he was going back to Spain, he brought back avocado.

Conclusion Some lifeskills Christopher Columbus used were patience, curiosity, and courage. He used patience because on Oct. 12, 1492, he saw land for the first time in 3 months. He used curiosity because he was curios to explore other lands. He used courage because you have to have courage to go to sea and leave your family.
