RUBRIC for the RESEARCH PROJECT AP Cambridge Capstone Research Dana Linton

Components of the Academic Paper Required Component Description Research Question Clearly articulated research question as the title Literature Review Literature review that outlines the research materials used and how the materials offer information and views relating to the question Analysis & Evaluation Explanation of Research Methodology. Analysis and evaluation of the evidence Conclusion Conclusion that answers the research question and in which a judgment is made on the issue that is consistent with the evidence and how it has been evaluated Reflection Reflection on the method used to research, the approach taken, the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence, and the implications of the conclusion(s) reached Bibliography Complete bibliography of sources consulted Students should apply the research method(s) appropriate to their chosen subject. Some of the following research methods may be used in the report: • Internet searches • Database searches • Interviews (e.g., with subject specialists, witnesses) • Laboratory experiments • Computer modeling • Case studies • Fieldwork (e.g., internships)

Components of the Research Paper 4,500 to 5000 word documented academic paper Word requirement does not include bibliography Paper must use proper citations No plaigerism

RUBRIC FOR RESEARCH PAPER AO1 – Understanding of the Research Project Design, plan, manage and conduct own research project using techniques and methods appropriate to the subject discipline. 1 to 20 points

RUBRIC FOR RESEARCH PAPER AO2 – Selection of Information Select appropriate information from a range of sources. 1 to 15 points

RUBRIC FOR RESEARCH PAPER AO3 – Analysis Assess and synthesize information, concepts, arguments and evidence. 1 to 15 points

RUBRIC FOR RESEARCH PAPER AO4 – Evaluation Evaluate alternative perspectives and interpretations and make independent reasoned judgments. 1 to 15 points

RUBRIC FOR RESEARCH PAPER AO5 – Communication Communicate clearly in presenting own research, interpretations and judgments using appropriate formats and conventions. 1 to 20 points
